Something Different

Hot-Air Ballooning, Litchfield, CT has flights over Litchfield Hills and central Connecticut -- available all seasons, all year.

Carriage Ride, in Morris, CT can be a horse-drawn hay ride or a  horse-drawn carriage ride.

Lourdes in Litchfield Shrine Grotto, Litchfield, CT is a replica of the Lourdes Grotto in France.  It is on 30 acres with paths and benches in a natural and peaceful setting.

Hunt Hill Farm, Rt. 202, New Milford dedicated to the preservation of Hunt Hill Farm Trust preserves two New England farms with 10 historic buildings and 84 acres of farmland.  It is the home of the late Skitch Henderson's Living Museum and the Silo Store, Gallery & Cooking School  It is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution.

Horseback Riding, Litchfield, CT has well-mannered horses and beautiful riding trails.  Pony rides are available.

Antiquing 

There are numerous antique shops in the immediate area.  Woodbury, Connecticut, referred to as the “antique capital of the east” is twelve miles away from Arc de Roses.

Orchards Picking

Whether you like to pick apples, blueberries, peaches, etc you can pick or purchase your own fresh fruit at local orchards.   Averill Farm, Swanson Blueberry Farm, Starberry Farm, and Hallock Orchard are all in very close vicinity of Arc de Roses.

Wine Tours

Hopkins Vineyard, New Preston, CT, is a mile and a half from Arc de Roses.  The award winning winery has tours and wine tasting of their eleven different varieties of award winning wine.

Museums 

The Institute for American Indian Studies, Washington, CT, displays the Algonkian Peoples history, including 10,000 years old artifacts, and a replicated Native American 17th Century Algonkian Village with outdoor simulated archaeological site. It is approximately 8 miles from Arc de Roses.

Gunn Memorial Library & Museum, Washington, CT, is approximately 8 miles from Arc de Roses. This home dates back to 1781 and displays 18th and 19th century collections.

Sloane-Stanley Museum and (next to it)  the Connecticut Antique Machinery Museum, Kent, CT.  The Sloane-Stanley Museum has works of art by noted artist and author Eric Sloane, and houses a reconstruction of his studio and features a collection of early American tools  collected by Mr. Sloane.  The antique Machinery Museum has the largest display of steam and gas tractors in the state, a working narrow gage railroad, and industrial hall with working steam engines, a mining exhibition building and the Cream Hill Agricultural School.

Tapping Reeve House and Law School, Litchfield, CT is America's first law school founded in 1774.  It takes you on a journey through the lives of real students who attended the school in the early 19th century.  It shows you travel, communication, education and community living in Litchfield at that time.

Litchfield History Museum, Litchfield, CT shows the evolution of the town of Litchfield through  exhibits and activities in seven galleries.  Shows clothing, furniture and articles of interest in a vibrant manner.

State Parks

Lake Waramaug State Park, Kent, CT, is about two miles from Arc de Roses.  Camping, lake fishing, picnicking, swimming, and paddle boats rentals are just a few of the ways to enjoy the remarkable views.

Mount Tom State Park, Litchfield, CT, is about three mile away.  There is a lookout tower, and activities like boating, fishing, scuba diving, swimming, hiking, boating, and picnicking are available.

Topsmead State Park, Litchfield, CT, an English Tudor style mansion with beautiful antiques and a sunken garden was the summer home of heiress Edith Chase.  Its 500 acres are also great for hiking, picnicking, birding and cross-country skiing.

Housatonic Meadows State Park, Cornwall Bridge, CT  eight miles from Arc de Roses, offers picnicking, hiking and stream fishing.

Macedonia Brook State Park, Kent, CT, is about 10 miles away, with stream fishing, hiking and picnicking.
